G-nome Surfer: a Tabletop Interface for Collaborative Exploration of Genomic Visualization
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present G-nome Surfer, a multi-user, multi-touch table for collaborative exploration of genomic information. G-nome Surfer has been developed for a population of scientists who frequently meet in small groups for data exploration. To scaffold hypothesis forming, G-nome Surfer allows users to compare, annotate, share, and relate heterogeneous data including genome visualizations, publications, gene expression, and BLAST results. Evaluation of Gnome Surfer shows that it reduces workload and improves performance compared to state-of-the-art tools.

The design, development, and deployment of a tabletop interface for collaborative exploration of genomic data
In this paper, we reflect on the design, development, and deployment of G-nome Surfer; a multi-touch tabletop user interface for collaborative exploration of genomic data. G-nome Surfer lowers the threshold for using advanced bioinformatics tools, reduces the mental workload associated with manipulating genomic information, and fosters effective collaboration. We describe our two-year-long effo...
متن کاملDigital Tables for Collaborative Information Exploration
There is great potential for digital tabletop displays to be integrated in tomorrow’s work and learning environments, in which the exploration of information is a common task. In this chapter, we describe the stream of research that focuses on digital tabletop collaborative visualization environments. We focus on two types of interfaces: those for information exploration and data analysis in th...
متن کاملInformation Visualization on Interactive Tabletops in Work vs. Public Settings
Digital tabletop displays and other large interactive displays have recently become more affordable and commonplace. Due to their benefits for supporting collaborative work—when compared to current desktop-based setups—they will likely be integrated in tomorrow’s work and learning environments. In these environments the exploration of information is a common task. We describe design considerati...

Oil and gas reservoir flow simulation models are computational models that converge reservoir data collected from several sources into a single entity. They are used by reservoir engineers to forecast reservoir behaviour, a fundamental activity for better understanding of the underground reserves; they are also analyzed and discussed by a team of experts in related fields, ultimately attempting...
متن کاملExploring faceted geo-spatial data with tangible interaction
In this paper we introduce a case study on tangible geo-visualization on an interactive tabletop to enable the exploration of architectural projects in Venice. The tangible user interface consists of a large display showing projects on a map, and a polyhedral object to browse these data interactively by selecting and filtering various metadata facets. With the object we aim to reduce the barrie...
